Omega with a sprawling 86-year-old history, and a name as the official time-keeper of the Olympics, Omega has made itself a household name. Yet, there aren’t many who know the history of this classic and at times, eccentric brand. If you’re curious to learn just how this brand made a giant of itself, keep reading below.

The history of Omega starts thus: Louis Brandt founded Omega in 1848 in Switzerland. Initially, the brand was called “Comptoir d’établissage”, and started making a name for itself soon after it was created, owing to the creative genius of Brandt. After his death, his equally brilliant sons took over the brand, and OMEGA came to be a line of state-of-the-art watches that were incredibly accurate and easy to repair. The first national success garnered by OMEGA was when it won the Swiss National Exhibition in Geneva. After this, in 1905 the company was officially renamed to Louis Brandt and Frère – OMEGA Watch Co.
